Some of this stuff is just real and is not symbolic or representative.

Pg 96 Marcus Welby M.D. freaks in Zucky's is just typical Los Angeles.
Pg  104 "Spike himself had been growing obsessed with the El Segundo 
oil refinery . . ."  sounds like early 70s Five Rivers, Oregon where 
veterans  who couldn't handle the big city settled with the 
indigenous farmers and academic refugees to grow dope, Christmas 
trees and hogs.  See Bitter Fog by Carol Van Strum, 1983, where 
valiant nobodies fight the County, the State, the Fed, big Pharm and 
the bought and sold universities to stop the spraying of herbicides.
Pg 109 the cheap acid trip seems ripped from Carlos Castaneda.
Pg 100 ". . . tapped by God to be wiped out in atonement . . ." Perhaps see
