That's the VALIS trilogy: VALIS, The Divine Invasion & The 
Transmigration of Timothy Archer. What you're talking about is 
VALIS, the other two novels have different plots. In Invasion Earth is 
invaded by God (from Outer Space). In Trasmigration somebody finds 
evidence that Christ (or better, those who invented Christ) used 
hallucinogenic mushrooms.
