I'm focusing on a subject that interests me. It's in the text. I'm not
saying that's what the book's "about" but it is a thread that
interests me.
I think thermodynamic issues were always on TRP's mind, I see elements
of concern around global warming all over Inherent Vice—including a
very scary time travel acid trip to L.A. in the wake of climate change
disaster. Being granted a three-hour tour of L.A.'s stoner dives is a
treat all by itself as well. Whatever you might think, failing to
write about a subject that's front and center in Inherent Vice—
something's that's slap-you-in-the-face obvious—well that would be a
dereliction of duty, wouldn't it?. I follow breadcrumbs. If I don't
know about a name or place I look it up. I have a feeling I'm supposed
to under the surface meaning of these books at the very least. If in
the process of looking up these unfamiliar names the CIA keeps coming
up, whose fault is it?
You can write whatever you like.
