Grant quotes someone on Schoenmaker being 'one of the Good Guys"....I suggest
started that way but in V. he is now a degraded good guy..........another mixed
human, partly human (in values), character.
as Mae West sez: I drifted.....for Schoenmaker it is largely the USA he is
caught in......maybe?
Thoughts of how important human faces, face-to-faceness, that Face in Ev'ry

me to notice this reading: Esther's face is broken and reshaped. She is not who
she was,
physically. Her face is not (quite) her face. Her natural self is changed.
