Well, there's a *lot* of great stuff in there. But 'V.' is a terrifically hard
book to get into, at least it was for me, initially. I really had to force
myself through it, first time round. I would never, under any circumstances,
recommend it to anyone as their first Pynchon.
I second this and I second some of Robin's dissing.....and alice's.
I stopped out of V., fully lost anyway...my first youthful reading.........as
some are speaking of that BDSL scene,
I stopped out of V. at the upcoming Pig Bodine scene.....unable, too young, to
even begin to get that The Whole Sick Crew
might be 'sick'......[I thought they were supposed to be the cool hip types and
since I never was, I tried to identify until I
could no longer bridge the fantasy gap).
V., this first reading, was just scenes and chapters----Esther,
Alligator-hunting in sewers----that seemed to be satirizing something
I did not understand ...............................and Stencil?...fuggetaboutit
Plea:
Robin, don't go away.......we need whatever you post........maybe ESPecially if
itinvolves criticism of the book.............P himself dissed it
TOTALLY................so, you must be reading it right and alice and I (and
some others) often wrong in tacit praise...........(I have found
more fault with it than any others of his)
