V-2nd, Misc.; Shafting Bongo-Shaftesbury

I have had this nagging befogged memory, from a college course I took,  that a 
Shaftesbury was savagely 

satirized by Alexander Pope.....................but I was wrong, not having 
studied hard enough................

Or maybe Dryden, I learn when I get lucky with serendipitous "research". 
[Shakespeare, like Pynchon, connects
to everything].....

Seems Dryden, foreechoing P's ass-falling off when unscrewed joke and Bongo-S 
and the mechanical doll....DID satirize
The Earl of Shaftesbury in a work called "The Medall"....Dryden wrote that The 
Earl had a faucet installed in his abdomen to drain 

ill humors!.....
