Slightly spurious. Isn't Pynchon being a tad modest in that intro? Didn't he once refer to COL49 as 'a piece of sh1t' or words to that effect?

Beyond spurious. If I go off and read Twain's books more times than you've read them, does that automatically mean I'll be less likely than you to 'misread' them?
