right, like mass media and the lowest common denominator, restating
issues more and more simplistically until our natural sense of nuance
is shrieking in protest...

telegraph operators used to be able to distinguish among different
members of their profession just by hearing the dah-dit-dah -- that's
how finely tunable the human brain is.

Spurious binary choices like do you or don't you believe in this or
that, for heck's sake, ignore the power and sophistication of the
human mind!  The eye can detect a single photon!

Sermonizing is all well and good, but it is rarely "that simple" that
some of us can say that we get it and those other schlubs are (quite
probably wilfully) missing the whole point, and therefore let's beat
them up and take their stuff...
