AtD seems to pretty openly play with the idea of alternate futures
branching off from the present, all those roads not taken, different
presents playing out simultaneously (eg. Candlebrow U) etc.

Maybe Lew's is an alternate past coming to catch up with him...
Another Lew Basnight's history mysteriously intersecting with his own.
He might protest "hey, I didn't!" - the universe answers "but someone
did..."
