Folks

As some of you already know, I have decided to start up my own online arts & pp culture magazine. Here's the putative website:

www.oomska.co.uk

We've got a pretty exciting bunch of people writing for us, and of course there will be some Pynchon content, eventually. I was talking to one of our guys today and discussing 'Against the Day'. I told him I'd never managed to quite get my review of that book finished - that thing in popmatters was just meant to be a blurb for a 'best books of the year' feature that never ran. BUt I alwasy hope to return to it some day, and maybe will now that I've got my own website etc. But not right now, because I'm too busy with other things, plus I wrote 2 Pynchon reviews in the last year.

But this guy, well read, etc. but never read a word of Pynchon, well, he made a suggestion that I immdiately rejected, but then reconsidered: why don't we run a feature on Pynchon, written by Pynchon List people? A sort of 'what does Pynchon mean to you in X words' kind of thing. If everybody submitted a few paragraphs (or as many as you like), focusing on whatever aspect they like - what first hooked you, what themes keep you interested, favourite passage, recommendation for first Pynchon book for new readers, etc., well, we could, between us, knock together a nice little article, n'est pas?

This is the sort of article you might expect to find in a 'proper' publication, 'cept all those jaspers they'd quote would be big name authors. Fair enough. But I learned more about Pynchon from this list than th enext half a dozen most useful sources combined. So whaddya say? Who's with me?

I think the one big advantage of this format is that nobody has to knock themselves out writing a big involved all-encompassing essay - our feature will be composed of a number of mini essays. And God knows this list has the knowledge and ability to do it.

The site goes live on 22nd March 2010. Can we get a list of who'd be willing to participate as soon as possible?

Cheers
John
