Murdoch (Iris, not Rupert)

Under the Net, her first---although she wrote 5 (five) before that that she never had published, is quite philosophical.....in fact, most are, of course, no surprise.....'under the net of language" undsoforthem......character based loosely on Ludwig W., another on Simone Weil notions re poor and commitment.....

Most consider "A Severed Head" her most-together, most typical early work...human themes of passion, obsession, love ....think on title...

first heard of her from a philo prof who said The Sandcastle is a novel embodying (Sartre's?) existentialism....Ok...and more. 

The Flight from the Enchanter.....obsession....the enchanter in real life was the guy who wrote Crowds and Power....

I was reading The Bell when my son was born.....so, a fave.... about the tower, everywhere and belief and living without.....(I later learned it was one her husband, John Bayley, wrote some of...)

The Black Prince...Hamlet echoes and more....(never got to, but I wanted to from publication)

"The Sea, the Sea" is often considered her best later work.....booker prize, I believe.....(I did not read this one either).....but for some lyrical excerpts

A Word Child and Bruno's Dream are wonderfully rich, playful later works....language, art and artists, and more

AND you HAVE TO read some of her 'philosophy'...her writing on writers.....
