Adams keeps repeating that he is 'of the 18th Century' caught educationless in
the 19th, early 20th.
He has a few, only a few, very positive words about the 18th Century in America.
He writes as
if taking for granted that we readers would understand why...from that 18th
Century sensibility
might come the idealism from which he disses about everything in his
time............

Seeds of Mason & Dixon?....i.e. filling in the taking-for-grantedness?

The 91-year old man in Lot 49, who recalls his grandfather when he--the old
man-- was a boy, might

take us back to @ Mason & Dixon time.....
