I thought that he was falling from a crouched position, and his head was falling eastward (toward the statue).
But what bugs me about my arrangements is, why does the text only mention turning by the statue once?
That fact makes it seem like some of the other people are walking from/to somewhere else, presumably out an exit to the west. But if there is a western exit, why the statement about the end of the corridor?
