Greek translation of GR?

If you don't mind me asking, did you read the Greek version first and then prefer the English once you read that?  Or read the the English version first, and then try the Greek out of interest?   I'm almost tempted to get the English version instead, as from what you say (and what I imagine) even the best-possible translation must miss out so much.  But if in your opinion the Greek version is still a mind-boggling read for a native Greek speaker who may not be up to reading the English one (i.e. isn't comparing the Greek to knowledge of the English), I'll probably go with the Greek.

It's not bad, I prefer the english version myself, but since your friend will have problems reading it in its original language, the greek version will be just fine.

When I read it I wonder whether it's even possible to render this into any other language; but then I've read it so many times in my native English that I might be underestimating how good a translation could be.  And - I hope - GR would attract slightly crazy, masochistic translators willing to bend and stretch and generally beat their own language to within an inch of its life, as much as TRP does.




I'm hoping to buy this as a present for a Greek friend, whose English is excellent; but judging from her reaction to other books I've lent her, with "hard" English literature she finds her ability in English makes it too hard work.  I'd hate her to miss out on GR just because of this!
