Yes. "Cyprian's descent into the secret world" (p. 698), with its 
intertwining of homosexuality,
political spying and the masochist's passivity, leads him finally, by 
the sexual magick of a ménage à trois (pp. 881-3), to an orthodox 
monastery and so he becomes "an offering to Night" (p. 959). The
scene has beautiful Orphic overtones and also reminded me of Tyrone 
Slothrop.

Not that "release from desire" (p. 839) works for everybody.

Btw, I'm beginning to change my mind on AtD. Was reading it all morning 
and felt extraordinarily
entertained. On second sight it reveals so much more than the first time.
