Aphrodite's Cyprus, begins one article online, a crossroads
between East-West....which aspects of Cyprian's name we have explored.

but the guy, a good scholar named Alvin Kernan, Yale, who wrote the 
intro to the  Signet edition wanted to focus on the allegory within Othello--
Venice= City, organized society........Cyprus=[closer to] raw nature; anarchy.
