Yeah, itz a funny ding dat way dat Pyncher got his pink fingers around
dat Fitz and Wilson. As I intimated over the summer of 2010, the
Pyncher is all over that Wilson--mentions his Finland in that SL
Intro. In the old rough cut 1941 copies of Fitz I got at a garage sale
in Pyncher's childhood neighborhood, I marked up, with red pencil what
I thought were beautiful passages. There are more of them now that I
look with older eyes. He has that flare, much as/like Crane's got,
for shades and lights and fountains and dreams and the enchanted
romantic brush stroke that, when set against the canvas of
history--post depression fears of mob and organized crime, not to
mention Wall Street, government, and, as in VL, the snitches and
bitches and sons of a bitches who turn on you during an earthquake...I
like the narrative technique... a female...reminds me of Adams's
Esther...a smart and perceptive kid in the playground of a Hollywood
back lot...reminds me of Rober Coover and, of course, Pyncher's
California works, CL49, VL and IV.
