Is it a negative review?

In my impression it's a "normal" well-meaning review, just like the
other ones that I've read (and postet here). I think the the novel is
generally seen very positive by the reviewers over here:

You might also notice something else even in the first pages: please
never forget "that Charles Manson and the Vietcong are both called
Charlie."  That has got to mean something.

I'm not quite sure of that too, but what I thought was: Now, this has
got no meaning at all, no matter what Sauncho (p. 119) and/or the
reviewer might think about it.
