that would be bad too, though. it still negates Posse Comitatus. and
that was the crux, wasn't it?

however, the main reason I'm posting is to share a poignant little
vignette that actually happened to me on the streets of Ann Arbor
while I was a young and carefree student.

Just a humorous sidelight.

because when I was reading about Senator Carl Levin, I remembered
walking along on a pleasant autumn afternoon, leaves golden and red
and falling...and a lady of maybe retirement age accosted me and
struck up a conversation. She introduced herself as Mrs Levindusky -
she said I could remember that by remembering Sandor Levin (Carl
Levin's older brother Sandy was also prominent in Michigan politics,
running against the eventual Republican victor, William Milliken, in
1970 and 1974, so this would have been during his 1974 campaign) - so,
she said, just think of "dusky Levin"....

she also told me a joke: what did the one big toe say to the other? --
Don't look now, but there are a couple of heels behind us!

just a moment of spontaneous friendliness from town to gown...

and gosh, those Levins have been around for awhile! (Sandy is Chairman
of House Ways and Means at this time)
