in the intro to Venus & Adonis in the Norton Shakespeare, 1999 edition
written by Katherine Maus, there is this line:

"The sophisticated pleasure of intense self-awareness replaces the
straightforward,

even mindless pleasure of the sex act itself."

This early poem, as well as the early Taming of the Shrew uses coral as an
adjective
---color of lips....

It seems anohter classic I don't know by reading, Ovid's Metamorphosis. treats
of
a range of sex ..'perversions'..ala our list author esp in Gravity's Rainbow....
.esp Book 10 in Ovid: 'necrophilia, homosexuality, bestiality, fetishism
and incest.

I think someone posted connections between some pynhcon and the metamorphosis
in the past.....just fyi
