I would suggest that Allen's 195)s list was his list
of the fashionable intellectual currents of the time
and an author would satirize them all as he---yes, very
ambitiously---savaged the time of his historic time..

Why should these disparate systems be linked in
a single book by any author? I ask, dumbly. What
do they have in common beside besides the
megalomaniacal ambitions of the author?

FOR ANYTHING COMPARABLE IN OUR TIME WE WOULD NEED TO IMAGINE
A NOVELIST INTELLECTUALLY POWERFUL ENOUGH TO SATIRIZE IN ONE
BOOK THE EXPONENTS OF, SAY, MARXISM, PSYCHOANALYSIS, THE PSYCHOLOGY
OF JUNG, LOGICAL POSITIVISM, NEO-CATHOLICISM, EXISTENTIALISM, CHRISTIAN
SCIENCE, ABSTRACT PAINTING. ...!!!
