that's a qualified sympathy I think Kai. it's the beat cop individual
relationships on the street that remain pure in a sense and not
beholden to the rotting corpse of an institution that was the LAPD.
its no different from the soldiers in the trenches who fight for each
other, who love each other in the way most men (when it was mostly
men) can love each other without all the physical Freudian nonsense.

Much of the code b/w cops is seen as negative--planting weapons, cover
up, etc. But it does have its positive aspects which I think Pynchon
recognizes as real. think thats what he was getting at
