Wedges & Bottoms & Quents in MSND

In the Miller's Tale, Handy Nicholas grabs Alice by the quente. Peter Q in MSND carries this pun, cunt, fruit, sex, wedge, bottom...so on. Shakespeare's bawdy puns, like Chaucer's were the stuff that young Pynchon appreciated.  A carpenter may use a wedge to shim up or devide a house.    see Peter Holland's Shakespeare's Comedy. online
