Richard the Third, monstrous, deformed, King-schemer, in the play, Act 3, Scene
1:

"Thus, like the formal Vice, Iniquity,
I moralise two meanings in one word."

Iniquity, from medieval morality plays, is deceptive via dual meanings, embodied
hypocrisy (so to speak), a meaning that also holds
its own dark shadow in it. Inherently?

I also liked this P- themed, Melville-echoing quote by Elizabeth Bishop (from a
review):
"the woman who once invited readers to hear "the pitch of my village" this way:
"Flick the lightning rod on top of the church steeple with your fingernail."
