I vote for the rosewater vs. lime gin & tonic surface association
with green: Culturally, green has broad and sometimes contradictory meanings. In
some cultures, green symbolizes hope and growth, while in others, it is
associated with death, sickness, envy, or the devil.
And rose associating with under the rose, etc...

I'm forwarding this to the List as well 'cos I suspect just aboiuyt
everyone will have a better answer than i will, so ... uh, yeah,
though I'm with you in assuming that there's some specific idiom--or,
@ least, context (rosewater vs. lime in yr gin and/or tonic?)--and,
not so much the mixture, but the contrast (yin/yang?) seems the issue
of interest and/or importance or whatever there, but ...
... but there are just so damn many such instances, and not just in GR
alone (see also AtD + IV, in particular), and the particular colors do
seem to have a particular significance, bot in Pynchon in particular
and in the history of color (chemical or otherwise) in general ...
