traders point out that it's not a tax on the profit but on the dollar
value of the transaction

so basically like a sales tax, you know, the regressive kind that
people pay on food and stuff

but anyway, it mounts up a lot when you do a lot of transactions

they point out that they are not actually such bad guys, really, and
this would really make it hard for them to continue doing business, in
their opinion (and yet nobody has made a case for why their buying and
selling is so important that it should be tax exempt)

lot of interesting comments on that, it's an old, old thread with
thousands of replies!
(man, if we could get a p-list thread with 10,000 replies...)

they are intelligent and lively people who could probably get jobs
doing something real if they wanted to -- hmm, I'm sort of back to
"I'm glad they're not competing for my niche" ---
I bet if I read all the 10,000 posts I might have a better feel for
certain things --- why don't I start that project and shut up for a
bit on the p-list...
