I'd guess that the children of that other domestic incarnation are the things that'll be created with the metal, and my understanding of smokeshriek was that it was that unexpected scream you hear when you burn something with metal in it that you didn't know had metal in it, something that'll be in the toys, tools, et c of the future, the hidden resonance of these war things, always there.
