p.811 She gazed backward at.."iron convergences and receding signal lamps"
From V.'s early receding street lamps--in a V-- through GR everywhere, TRP compresses
and echoes this part of his Western historical vision right here... then adds the
so-smart Yashmeen bringing it home:
"outward and visible metaphor, she thought, for the complete ensemble of
"free choices" that define the course of a human life."....what a comment, eh?
Some critic once wrote, before the later works, that none of Pynchon's characters
could read and "get' the books they are in.............
If true, it is not true of Yashmeen, right? is she, in some sense, Pynchon's best reader
of AtD and maybe all of them?
