This evidently seminal book was brought to my attention offline. Breton, often called a founder of Surrealism.
And we know from Slow Learner that surrealism liberated TRP's creative mind and style..........

I wish this book were still in print.

Subject: Back to AtD ...a little'black humor"?

p. 810  "Blutwurst Special"...."an obvious response to deep crisis"...
I laughed. Again.  ..........
And now I ask is this not an example of a "blackly humorous" joke in miniature?
I laughed at 'blood' and, by extension, death. I should feel uncomfortable(?) and I did.

Is black humor satire upon final ends? Not just social or 'human comedy'--alal Balzac, Saroyan(who used the phrase)?

"Black humor"...An American style/genre of the 60s,early 70s says a scholar. That includes Pynchon.
True?Why then? Define?
