"Double Process' ala Iceland Spar....I won't bore more with elaboration, but let me
say that Pitirim finds this double process in science, philosophy and in all fields of
fine arts........
It is a leading principle of his as he explores social history in this book: many,-- most-- important
phenomena are not either-or but both-and....

Subject: Back to AtD, Sorokin,as threatened
Yesterday, I mentioned The Crisis of Our Age, originally 1941, by one of the
leading first wave sociologists......
I'm not suggesting another TRP source, just some associative parallels, some
of which P musta come to believe from others we know he read--such as Weber
Or, perhaps better in this case, we might think....some historical/social theories and
truths he was led to by Historical Reality, as we presume Sorokin and other sociologists were.
in the Foreword, Sorokin speaks of a DOUBLE PROCESS (my caps ala Icelandic Spar)...
in lots of areas......(next post)
But here he precedes that by putting down a Key Pynchon theme....that pretty much only
in the 20th Century have the discoveries and innovations of science been "tied up with
their trend toward increasing destructiveness.."
