Mad, your metaphor here is dead. A parade? Are you kidding me? A
parade is unoriginal and useless as analogy here. Gawd, did you end
your study of american history and culture after the kennedys were
killed or what? Moreover, it simply is not true. Americans do not
fancy a hearty parade. The so-called great generation has parades and
dyed the patriotic blood in the sheeps in wolf~s uniforms with their
monuments, but post korea, post vietnam, the parade, the patriotic
parade especially, was put away with the astronutz and then buried in
somber reflections cast in a black wall erected by a chinese american
girl who, as the poem sez, forced us to face it.

And parades have never been about common sense. A parade has cult
value; it is not pragmatic. As London hands the olympics to Rio, where
a rock band named queen, as queer as jolly old london is, in keeping
with stiff lower dicks, willing to go, we see what a parade does: it
washes away, it cleans, it is a confession and an act of contritition,
then a sacrifice, and then a blessing. For it is still, even in
protestant america, a sin not to celebrate life, and life, of course,
includes death and blood letting.
