I liked the entire Star Wars series for many reasons. Underlying my pleasure in the rush and thrills was the very thing that Sawyer doesn't see. For me the great struggle underlying Star Wars is the great struggle underlying America, Can we be both an empire and a republic. The Jedi's are the artists, the reformers, the truth tellers, the spirit :Frederic Douglas, Twain, Martin King, Woodie Guthrie, Jane Adams.... The wars of empire to consolidate power continue to crush the egalitarian spirit of the republic and it is a war against all that is celebrated and cherished, a civil war, an exaltation of death. The truth of Star wars is not in the original stories which are a fantasy of the abolition of empire, but the murder of the Jedi's, the murder of a planet. People turned away from Star Wars with mixed feelings because it carried us like a space jet only to leave us on the dark shores of a land molten and in flames. Anyway, for me, it has operatic and tragic grandeur along with those cute white stormtrooper outfits .
