I agree, it's probably better never to quote on list from an off list 
message without permission. even when a compliment in effect is being paid.

However at times in the past I have been sorely tempted. Off list 
attempts to get p-listers to change their positions on things seem out 
of order and might well be exposed with impunity.

That sort of thing may not go on anymore.  The p-list isn't the Wild 
West it once was.
