As we read or listen to the dialogue in those late scenes, it seems
the men are talking, at times passed eachother, and at times, in
subtle hints, in states of exasperation, resignation, as if only we
can get how much they miss the mark, and yet, it is as if they are
discussing or confessing not emotion or passion or feelings, but
football or horses. Somehow the boys can never quite get what the
other is, or is trying to say. The intimate encounters, even the risky
ones, don't penetrate these barriers, these erections merely cross
swords and purposes, often ignoring subtleties to prevent total
communication or confirmation of the other. As I said before, basic
feminist stuff here.
