In a terrif long piece on Hilary Mantel, another writer whom I have not read--how is everyone so well-read?,I crawl through good novels like I'm learning how to read just then---the story of her trying to get her first historical novel bought by a publisher, about none of which wanted such---
mentions that Pynchon had recently had an " historical novel" published, that novel---V. ---I never really thought of as one until.....I became old enough to have a history myself.
