The late W.G. Sebald’s work resisted classification, and so it goes
with this documentary, both essay and meditation, which retraces a
walk through East Anglia, in England, that became the backbone of
Sebald’s book The Rings of Saturn. Following in the literal and
metaphorical footsteps of “The Rings of Saturn,” a 1998 chronicle of
an English walking tour that is sometimes read as an invitation to a
pilgrimage, Patience (After Sebald) combines a number of genres into a
wonderful film. Beautiful shots of black and white landscapes leave
the viewer in awe. Patience (After Sebald) is a thoughtfully conceived
and tastefully executed tribute to a venerated author.
