I have now seen it and I urge all but I will only here say that it does seem clear to me
that Anderson has been reading Pynchon. Monroe has links below. The against the day
Line hits you like a surprise and Hoffmann's late little speech is the siege of Paris and has C of Lot 49 allusions as well, I think.

I will also suggest the embodiment of the theme below---also part of ATD, IMHO, but also not only there
And not easily provable . 

the theme of transcendence--- vs. our irreducible human, partly animal,selves. All the religious 
Stuff so lampooned in ATD and all the love of the world that is not. 

As above, so below.

I think Anderson, like an artist, plays with this in his movie-changed way and vision.
