BE - the cover

Chabon, Whitehead, Zadie Smith etc. I think it has just become standard.
 
And the IV cover has "a novel" on it; the image I have of the final version with pink and green font does not, for some reason.

Do any other novelists of Pynchon's stature include "a novel" on
covers? Hard to imagine DeLillo or McCarthy or the like doing the
same. Barth probably would.
