*The lynch mob is a risk to us all, to out system of justice, to our civil
way of life, but for some of us, the threat of the lynch mob is greater.
Yesterday, as the establishment opned the Bush Library, I was wondering if
the mob will ever learn. I wonder why we need a museum at Ground Zero. Why
a memorial is not enough. I wonder why we want revenge on individuals and
groups, why justice that works doesn't satisfy us. This thirst for blood is
primitive. Afterall, the loser who exploaded lives and killed children and
police and in Boston will be dealth with in the courst. Is this not enough?
If the mob can get him, or have an influence on the courts, we all lose
more than limbs and lives. Our government has great power and can stop and
kill evil-doers. This is obvious enough. But can it protect us from its
assault on on our rights, on our courts, on our only method of standing up
to the mob? More and more, the answer is no. It will continue to silence us
and to punish us and to take from us our rights. This it does in the name
of power--the power of those who have money and can buy votes, and the
power of the mob. Support Public TV. Support Education. Please. This mesage

*THE CENTRAL PARK FIVE,* a new film from award-winning filmmaker Ken Burns,
tells the story of the five black and Latino teenagers from Harlem who were
wrongly convicted of raping a white woman in New York City’s Central Park
in 1989. The film chronicles The Central Park Jogger case, for the first
time from the perspective of these five teenagers whose lives were upended
by this miscarriage of justice.
