that is to say, depending on what the meaning of "is" is, does fate
equal character and/or vice versa
- is that like a figure/ground thingie - ie:
fate being what happens to a certain particle at a certain trajectory
character, then, being the nature of the particle and its trajectory
all blending into a single gestalt, considered from afar.
that might relate to Slothrop to some extent.
I mean, Slothrop qua Slothrop - is in fact a bundle of acquired
characteristics, foisted by outside forces - may as well call them
fate - on Infant Tyrone
and in turn those characteristics -- that character -- cause him to
gravitate towards certain actions which have consequences, yes...fate
