"Pynchon's most specific reference to the symbolic power of the World
Trade Center occurs in Chapter 11 (as a self-signifier of moral
bankruptcy) of M&D- the twin gallows, shimmering on the horizon of St.
Helena, the two terms- capitalism and slavery- so essential for the
western enterprise. Reading it post-911 is enough to cause goose
bumps- prescient."

I don't get this. How is P is referencing the twin towers or the world
trade center in Ch 11 of M&D? I decided to re-read the Chapter to see
if I could get goose bumps or see how prescient P was, but, after
reading through the chapter, my notes, the notes posted in the P-L
Archives on the two readings, and I wan an active participant on those
readings, and, after searching several other sources, online and in
critical literature, still, I remain baffled by this kind of reading.
