NP - new novel by Joyce Carol Oates

Well, she's either very guilty, or not- depending on yer p.o.v.- of Sloth, if that's what it takes to commit writing. But that expression, "time on your hands," is interesting. Is it something you can wash off, or, like Lady Macbeth, never be quite rid of? We too often take these common metaphors for and about time for granted.

I was reminded of this yesterday, at the annual St Paddy's Day gathering, when someone waiting their designated ride home (by me), made the comment:
"time is of the essence." Before I could put my coat and baseball cap on, one of the lawyers present advised that "time is of the essence" is actually a legal term referring to real estate closings. Once a date has been set, and the expression appears in the legal communication between them, the parties involved have three days to close the deal (at least in these parts). Not sure why it's three days, but this legal tidbit did remind me that Easter is upon us, early this year, and once the sun set on Good Friday, that deal was closed within three days.
