Most important, all are Televisual. In one way or another situated in  
the land of the "Tube". The opening of "The Crying of Lot 49" manages  
to get the TV Picture Tube and God cheek by jowl in the second sentence:

" Oedipa stood in the living room, stared at by the greenish dead eye  
of the TV tube, spoke the name of God, tried to feel as drunk as  
possible. But this did not work. "

The Tube is the God of these four "lesser" novels. I think it says a  
lot about critics, forest for trees, usw . . . And considering the  
Pynchon family history, considering how Pynchon and Company went under  
because of their big investment in Fox pictures, considering how much  
sheer propaganda entered our culture thanks to these innovations in  
filmmaking, the deep propaganda of "Cop" shows and how often Cop Shows  
as propaganda are cited in these books, perhaps all should be re- 
located from California/New York to "Tubeland, USA."
