BEER Group Read. What's in a Name?

More naming.
Loeffler.....German for spoonbill, can't see any relevance but we learn this marriage was Jew
with German......more 'end of history' motif?......

And might as well get Gabriel Ice down.......Ice...the coldness as bad shit from before
Shakespeare....and one of P's constants, shorthand signatures as tropes go......

Maxine's a pretty close anagram of Examine (or examiner, if you want
to include the Tarnow).

But I like to think Pynchon doesn't use anagrams to name his
characters these days (whoever cracked "Entropy Sloth" is a genius but
BE isn't Gravity's Rainbow and everything he's written since that book
has been deliberately less Coded, I think).

Mark's link to the wiki entry on Polish town Tarnow is worth looking
at. That's some terrible history.
