In Pynchon's layered, associative, Empsonian ambiguous way, is BE ( in its way of financial mystery) also pointing to, semi-allegorizing ( loosely, very loosely so find a better word) about the time after the time of the novel---per Fiona below---and right up to the global financial crash of 2008?
