Rather Orwellian.
The Ukraine does put the traditional Left in an uncomfortable
position, and the America and Liberalism in Decline thesis seems full
of holes and contradictions. Nevertheless, I think the Chomsky crowd
need to be heard on Iraq, Israel, etc. Even our Progressive Mayor in
NYC, who is sliding to the Center Right with his support of police
brutality and prison abuses, supports the neighborhood bully, Israel.
But Putin is a thug, a criminal of another strip, and he must be
contained and punished. The notion that the given some stepping back
from the edge room will defuse the situation is naive. The Military
Industrial Complex of the Soviets Union was built on Ukraine, and
Putin's plan is to re-build from Ukraine. No brainier really.   Call
it Cold War 2 if you like, it isn't that grand, for Russia is shadow
of the Soviet Empire. The US Empire is still standing.
