It was beautiful and the Knob Creek at work there as well, turning rich into e.e. cummings.

Think I played that record to death and now listen to kid a slot maybe because I bought a bootleg cassette in Moscow in 2000 and the great dreariness if that record encodes the sad strange place I found myself in while in Russia: the Chechnya vet amputees alongside poor old women begging by church entrances if not cadging for booze in the city parks if not selling themselves for the biziness men briefly stating at the metropole near red square where you don't want to be a pedestrian, the streets made for bumper cars, your lucky to be alive walking aroun, forced to traverse the piss smelling tunnels to get across the streets, accosted by the Roma of the land or others out of their minds. Though I'll never forget the beauty of the place, the churches in st Petersburg where men practice solemn odes in mid afternoon, music that'll make you weep with love in such cavernous surroundings, remembering the poor old women cooking chicken in sparsely attended museums where you'll find all those captured nazi eagles and flags brought back in piles to be placed in these places. I haven't even mentioned the underground stray dogs sleeping on the train or making their way like everyone else through the memorable stations chandelier' and named after dead poets like Mayakovsky. Only Stalin had a red rise on his grave, I saluted Zhukov whose horse trod on a beaten swastika, like the ghitler postcard of an old woman at Stalingrad, bought with the poster that still hangs on my wall: the motherland calls! So that's what I think of when I hear radiohead.

I can't stand Radiohead (+ I saw 'em live opening for Belly on their
1st tour here, even), but it's too bad his score for There Will be
Blood (2007) wasn't eligible for the Oscra that year (used preexisting
mat'l, apparently).
