Failing to finish GR first time around is still an achievement in its own right.
Took me two goes to get through GR, VL, M&D. Not because they were too
'hard' (which is what people often approach Pynchon thinking, and are
surprised to find him otherwise) but because they were boring, I
didn't get the point, there were distractions outside of the book, one
was too heavy to carry around, one I didn't own but was reading at a
library, I just wasn't dragged along by the narratives the way I
wanted to be (and was with V.)
But all of those responses are now reversed, because as you change the
books do too. So if you don't get through GR, it's ok. It'll be a
different story down the track.
