Maybe an obvious or even wrong point but it seems like, like them or not,
Anderson and Tarantino (*Inglourious Basterds, *obviously) found ways to
defamiliarize Naziism/Nazis and depict that whole slice of history in a way
that hadn't been seen before. Which itself is an accomplishment,
considering the sheer number of WWII movies out there and the fact that so
many basically aspire to, largely, the same things.
