And some more assorted reviews

Makes me wonder whether this was done in the case of "There Will Be
Blood" regarding Upton Sinclair's novel "Oil!". Perhaps there's a
Sinclair-list out there where they had a similar discussion. But is it
adequate? I don't think so. Movies are movies, and books are books. And
then, more often than not good books - just think of Proust's opus
magnum - do not make good movies. I enjoyed "There Will Be Blood" - much
more than "The Master" - without knowing Sinclair's novel. The movie in
itself made sense to me. I agree, however, that it wouldn't hurt if
movie critics read the books the movies they review are based upon.
It's relevant in terms of context. But not in terms of movie text itself
which always can be understood by its own.
